THE WORK

Book Details

Ever wonder what Kenya’s future would look like if the Gen Z movement could crystallise into an ideology pursued at the ballot? Could Kenya be where the Asian Tigers were in the 1960s, before they achieved their economic miracle? The Gen Z Manifesto takes a bold stab at answering these questions. Grounded in history, the book examines the forces that have shaped Africa’s past and draws lessons from ancient civilisations, including Kemet (Ancient Egypt), Mesopotamia, the Han Chinese Empire and the Mali Empire. It then turns to the Asian Tigers and other high-performing Asian economies to explore the policies and conditions behind their remarkable transformation. But The Gen Z Manifesto is more than an economic blueprint. It argues that strong families are the foundation of a strong society and calls for renewed efforts to create environments in which children can thrive under the guidance of both parents. At its political heart, the book revisits the birthplace of democracy in ancient Athens, where citizens gathered in the Agora to deliberate on matters affecting their society. Inspired by this tradition, it calls on Kenya’s Gen Z and Millennials to establish Citizens’ Deliberation Councils across the country—spaces where citizens can collectively shape Kenya’s social, political and economic agenda through consensus.
